The Charlottesville Jazz Society Presents The Joe Fonda Quartet
The Charlottesville Jazz Society and WTJU Present The Joe Fonda Quartet November 17th

On Wednesday November 17th at 7:30 pm, The Charlottesville Jazz Society and WTJU-FM are please to sponsor a concert by The Joe Fonda Quartet at Unity of Charlottesville. The electrifying bassist and composer Joe Fonda has dazzled Charlottesville audiences many times over the years, with a variety of different bands. This new Quartet is appearing here for the first time. In addition to the leader, the groups unusual lineup features Jeff Lederer on saxophone, Michael Rabinowitz on bassoon and Harvey Sorgen on drums.
An accomplished international jazz artist, Fonda has performed with his own ensembles throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. He has collaborated and performed with such artists as Anthony Braxton, Archie Shepp, Ken McIntyre, Lou Donaldson, Kenny Barron, Carla Bley, and Billy Bang.  Fonda was the bassist with the renowned Anthony Braxton sextet from 1984 through 1999. As a composer, Fonda has been the recipient of grants from Meet the Composer and the New England Foundation on the Arts. He has performed in Charlottesville with The Fonda Stevens Group, Conference Call and The Eastern Boundary Quartet.
Jeff Lederer is a Saxophonist/clarinetist/composer who has been included in the Downbeat Critics and Readers poll each year since 2014. He last performed at Unity of Charlottesville as musical director and saxophonist when Brad Lindes Big Band performed the music of Allison Miller. For over thirty years Michael Rabinowitz has been on the cutting edge as a versatile bassoonist. He is as comfortable with Bach and Mozart as he is with Charlie Parker, John Coltrane and Ornette Coleman. Woodstock-based drummer/composer Harvey Sorgen travels the world giving percussion workshops and drumming with such greats as Ahmad Jamal, Bill Frisell, Paul Simon, and Derek Trucks. He is perhaps best known as a member of Hot Tuna.
The Joe Fonda Quartet concert at Unity of Charlottesville on November 17th at 7:30 pm is  made possible in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with The National Endowment for the Arts.
