Free Street creates non-autobiographical performances developed from writing that springs from creative explorations by the teen artists.
"Sub-Prime Youth", directed by Ron Bieganski, weaves the brutal realism of a Mexican-American family facing foreclosure with the emotional surreal music and movement of the Muses of Destruction.
A group of 1st generation Mexican-American youth finds protection from the pressure of the American dream by destroying their reality. The psychological hit from foreclosure of their home is tremendous and goes beyond the change from owner to renter. This family falls from living the American Dream back to immigrant status.
No one under 13 years of age will be permitted into the performance, because of the brutal language used in play.
All performances will have a post-show discussion with information from the Spanish Coalition for Housing about how to save your home from foreclosure.
"We didnt fall from owners to renters. We fell from owners back to immigrants. That is a long-ass way to fall. - from "Sub-Prime Youth"
