Book Talk by Mark Cohen, author of "Overweight Sensation: The Life and Comedy of Allan Sherman"
"Overweight Sensation: The Life and Comedy of Allan Sherman" (Brandeis U. Press, 2013) is the first biography of the manic, Bacchanalian and hugely creative Jewish song parodist. The biography's spring 2013 release anticipated the summer's 50th anniversary of Sherman's Grammy Award-winning 1963 hit, "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh!" The book has been widely reviewed

Bay Area writer Mark Cohen specializes in the Jewish American scene, from pop culture to high culture. His articles have appeared in American Jewish History, Saul Bellow Journal, History of Photography, Modern Judaism and newspapers such as the Forward, Los Angeles Times, Daily News and Newsday.
