Join the University of Northern Colorado and our partners, the Colorado Department of Higher Education, the Colorado Department of Education, and the Colorado Legacy Foundation, with support from the Gill Foundation's Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado, in a discussion to address the preparation of STEM teachers and focus on the challenges collectively faced by our programs. During the event, we will collaborate to create recommendations focused on the following central challenges:
-Developing a collective vision of STEM teacher preparation for Colorado -Developing an understanding of Colorado's STEM Education Framework -Facing potential implications of SB 191 on placement of pre-service teachers
Program Highlights: Keynote Address: Vision of STEM Education and STEM Teacher Preparation, by Dr. Charles Coble, Co-founder & Partner at The Third Mile Group and Teacher Preparation Analytics.
Colorado's STEM Education Framework: discussion led by representatives from CDE, CDHE and the Colorado Legacy Foundation.
Implications of SB191 Panel Discussion: representatives from CDHE, CDE, school districts, teacher preparation faculty and the Colorado Education Association.
Each presentation will be followed by working group sessions facilitated by representatives of STEM teacher preparation programs and alternative licensure programs from around the state. The challenges and recommendations from all participants expressed in the working group sessions will be collected and organized into a white paper that will be shared and distributed to state agencies, institutes of higher education, teacher preparation programs, and alternative licensure programs. Each institution or agency is also asked to present a poster showcasing its STEM teacher preparation programs. The posters will be displayed all day in the main meeting room and all participants will be encouraged to view the posters during lunch.
