OUR TOWN by Thorton Wilder's
Buffalo, N.Y. The Ujima Company, Inc. and Buffalo Public Theatre (BPT) will present a reading of Thorton Wilder's OUR TOWN on Monday, October 28th at 7:30 pm. The reading will take place at Theatre Loft, 545 Elmwood, Buffalo N.Y. All seats are $25, with proceeds to be shared by both companies. Celebrating the 75th year of Thorton Wilder's OUR TOWN is just one of the future collaboration both Ujima and BPT hope to present. The cast features some well-known names in locale theatre Lorna C. Hill, Richard Lambert, Steve Copps, Mary Mobius, WKBW'S Mike Randall, Zoe Scruggs, Andrea Profeta, Debbie Pappas and John Fredo as the stage manager.
The drama about two ordinary families living in adjacent houses in sleepy Grover's Corners, N.H. in the early years of the 20th century has been described by many as the Great American Play. The play details the everyday lives of those two families, the Gibbs and the Webbs. But underlying the events of their lives - marriages, births, and deaths - is a hope for something more, a transcendental experience unique to the human condition.
ABOUT THE COMPANIES: Ujima Company, Inc. serves to advance the interest and exposure of the performing arts as created and interpreted by African-Americans, by providing working opportunities for established artists and training experiences for student artist. Ujima company, Inc. is the only professional theatre company in all of Western New York dedicated to the development and presentation of African-American and other Third World artists. Of all the theatre companies in Buffalo, Ujima supports the longest standing acting ensemble. Ujima is among the most heralded and awarded arts organizations in the region, and was the first theatre company to receive the Outstanding Arts Organization award given by the Greater Buffalo Chamber of Commerce and the Arts Council in Buffalo and Erie County.
Buffalo Public Theatre Company (BPT) is co-founded by Kelli Bocock-Natale and Loraine O'Donnell. BPT will be in residence for the next three years at Theatre Loft. BPT seeks to create productions and programs that surprise, entertain, challenge and uplift our community through a shared act of imagination. As we plan our seasons, we intend to steer our thinking to reflect the breadth of ideas, emotions and perspectives presented on stage. Whether dreaming up a new work or re-imagining a classic, BPT is the place where anything can happen.
