Creative Mending
Creative mending is an invaluable skill that will save your time, money, and well-loved garments. Giving new life to worn out clothes breaks fast fashions cycle of consumerism and allows the maker to customize their garments to their craft.
In this workshop, local designer Angela Sison will lead students through the basics of hand sewing and mending. All participants will receive a hand-made sewing kit and use their new tools and knowledge to make a practice sampler.
After mastering the basics, everyone will creatively repair one of their own beloved garments under Angelas direct guidance. Farmers and other folks whose a/vocation is hard on their favorite clothing are especially encouraged to bring in their well-worn pieces. Each participant will receive an individual consultation on how best to mend one garment considering the fabric, fiber, thread, color, lines, techniques, and more.
Participants will leave the workshop with a sewing kit, a stitching sampler, a mended garment, and a new skill.
This workshop is suitable for both beginners and avid sewers who would like to learn a new trick or two specific to repair.
