Favorite Foods Across Cultures
Why do we like what we like? Vivian Reiss and Ariel Garten explore the psychology of favourite foods across and within cultures through an afternoon filled with art and, of course, delicious samplings.
Vivian Reiss is a renowned artist who has painted portraits of Mexican Migrant agricultural workers on Ontario farms, iconic chefs, Canadian celebrities, and rice farmers in remote Japanese villages.
In this event we get an up-close and personal look at these individuals and their representation in their portraits through an exploration of their favourite foods.
Brain-guru neuroscientist Ariel Garten examines the cross cultural psychology of food preferences to explore what creates a liking for different gustatory tastes within the individual and within a culture.
Favourite foods- from Jeanne Bekor's favourite dish, to Jamie Kennedy, to Mexican regional favourites- will be sampled.
The event is hosted in the architecturally enchanting Reiss Gallery.
