The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh
Presented by Innate Theatre, "The Pillowman" is the 2004 Olivier Award Winner and a 2005 Tony Award Nominee for Best New Play. With echoes of Stoppard, Kafka, and the Brothers Grimm, It tells the story of a writer, Katurian, who has been arrested by two detectives, Tupolski and Ariel, in an unnamed totalitarian state. He is wanted for questioning in connection to a series of horrific murders that happen to resemble the events of several of his stories. Unbeknownst to him, his mentally challenged brother has also been taken into custody, and both their lives as well as Katurian's legacy hang in the balance.

Martin McDonagh is the author of THE PILLOWMAN (Tony nominee, Best Play 2005; Olivier Award Winner 2004), THE LIEUTENANT OF INISHMORE (Olivier Award Winner, Best Comedy 2003), THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE (Tony nominee, Best Play 1998), THE LONESOME WEST (Tony nominee, Best Play 1999), A SKULL IN CONNEMARA, THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN, THE BANSHEES OF INISHEER, THE RETARD IS OUT IN THE COLD, DEAD DAY AT CONEY. Other works include "Barney Nenagh's Shotgun Circus," "Suicide on Sixth Street," "In Bruges," "Seven Psychopaths," "Six Shooter" (Oscar, Best Short 2006).

"Energizing blindingly bright black comedy [what makes] the unsettling and exhilarating new play from Mr. McDonagh so gripping as theater is how narrative art becomes the play's and the character's very life blood." NY Times.

"[McDonagh is] a dangerously prodigious master of theatrical form with a talent that goes far deeper than most people understand THE PILLOWMAN [is] thoroughly startling and genuinely intimidating." Chicago Tribune.

"McDonagh's least forgiving, bravest play." Variety.

"A complex tale about life and art, about fact and illusion, about politics, society, cruelty and creativity." Financial Times.
