St. Luke's Community Center
Bellingham, WA
Share this event:

The climate in the Pacific Northwest is changing.  With those changes come challenges and opportunities for the marine and land-based food systems we rely on for our health, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being.  This symposium will examine how climate change may impact our regional food system, and explore how we are--or could be--preparing for these changes. The symposium will be held on October 31 at the St. Luke's Community Center in Bellingham WA.

Symposium website: http://whatcom.wsu.edu/r4t

The symposium will bring together local and regional experts and stakeholders, including keynote speakers Craig Welch and Dr. Chad Kruger.  Craig Welch is the author of 'Sea Change' the recent three-part special series in the Seattle Times on the impacts of ocean acidification on the seafood industry. Dr. Kruger Director of the Washington State University Center for Sustaining Agriculture & Natural Resources (CSANR).  Representatives from businesses--including fisheries, shellfish, dairy, small fruit, grocery stores, food distributors and processors--will provide their perspective on the challenges we face.

WEBCAST AVAILABLE: A limited number of free spaces are available for those unable to attend in person. To register for the webcast, email Chris Benedict (chrisbenedict@wsu.edu), and include "Please sign me up for the CCS webcast" in the subject line.

Symposium sponsors and coordinators include Taylor Shellfish, Whatcom Conservation District, Washington Sea Grant, Washington State University, Western Washington University, City of Bellingham, Whatcom County Marine Resource Committee, Northwest Straits, Whatcom Watershed Information Network, and RESources.
