The Iceman Cometh by Eugene O'Neill
October 25 - November 24, 2013

Quotidian Theatre Company opens its 16th Season with THE ICEMAN COMETH, a rarely-performed masterpiece by Nobel Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner Eugene O'Neill that The New York Times calls a "tough, loquacious, magnificent play".  In a shabby New York barroom and hotel in 1912, the down-and-out await their salvation; the charismatic salesman Hickey is due for a visit, and he usually provides good cheer, dirty jokes, and free drinks. When Hickey arrives this time, however, he's a changed man, and he brings with him a sobering truth that his old friends don't want to hear. O'Neill's ambitious ensemble piece wrestles with the necessity of pipe dreams -- the lies we tell ourselves to make it through each day.

Featuring Steve Beall, Matt Boliek, Frank Britton, Danny Brooks, John Decker, Tiffany Garfinkle, Genevieve James, Carolyn Kashner, Steve LaRocque, Ken Lechter, Brian McDermott, Brandon Mitchell, Louis Pangaro, Manolo Santalla, Ted Schneider, Chris Stinson, Christian Sullivan, and Frank Vince.

"A smashing success... a must-see theater experience."

Critics love THE ICEMAN COMETH
at Quotidian Theatre Company!

"The great satisfaction of viewing Quotidian's production lies in the sheer scale of detail and characterization of these wonderful performances and soaking in O'Neill's soaring, smash-mouth script. Director Michael Avolio deserves great credit for the rich, detailed direction of a fantastic, no holds-barred ensemble. Don Slater's painterly lighting design fittingly sculpts compositions reminiscent of the Ashcan School or Hopper's alienated loners. Quotidian's Iceman is not a feast of woe. Its raw power is brutal and shocking, but it's also deeply funny and transcendently poignant. You'll love this play."

- Roy Maurer, DC Theatre Scene

"A gut-wrenching soul search of a play, a masterpiece that asks if the value of truth is worth the pain that can accompany it... The exquisite, balanced direction by Michael Avolio and the meticulous 18-member cast quickly absorb an audience into the tragedy of men's lies and far-reaching dreams. The cumulative power of O'Neill's play and the exceptional presentation by Quotidian Theatre Company demands a trip to The Writer's Center for this hypnotic literary binge."

- Sydney-Chanele Dawkins, DC Metro Theater Arts
