"Beyond Winning: How to Keep What's Great About Youth and Child Sports and Lose What's Not" lecture with Kim John Payne
These days it seems everyone has a youth sports horror story--whether it's about a tyrant coach obsessed with his team record that only plays the best kids on the team, or a parent who publicly berates his kid for not making a goal. But should it really only be all about winning? What about having fun, learning a sport, and developing athletic skills?
Join the author of Simplicity Parenting and Beyond Winning: Smart Parenting in a Toxic Sports Environment for an evening discussion of an alternative approach to teaching sports to kids. Deemphasizing short-term goals like winning and youth championships, Kim John Payne encourages an age-appropriate four-stage timeline, based on a child's physical, psychological, and neurological development. Come enjoy an evening with this noted author for what is sure to be a lively discussion.
"We've developed a solution-based book (Beyond Winning: Smart Parenting in a Toxic Sports Environment) and a grass roots movement to combat the win-at-all-costs culture that is robbing our children of their youth, athletic development, physical health, and, perhaps most importantly, love of free play." -- Beyond Winning: Smart Parenting in a Toxic Sports Environment
