Choose Your Path: Determining the Right Business Model
501c3, LLC, L3C, and more! The options for how your arts group might formalize can get quickly confusing or overwhelming without a bit of guidance. The key questions are: For profit or non? Which one is for you?
We'll address the questions as well as the possible answers by reviewing commonly used models, why you would choose one over the other, the broader responsibilities with each, and how to be strategic about making the decision.
This workshop is a perfect fit for groups considering the next steps towards formalizing their arts project or creative enterprise.
About our Workshop Lead: Andy Fife is an independent consultant, coach, speaker and writer in arts and nonprofit management, located in the Puget Sound Region and working throughout the country. His primary focus is on the intersection of art, civics and commerce, and he believes that the best cultural institutions and programs are those that bring relevant and impactful social benefit to a broad and diverse community.
Andy has served as the Executive Director of Shunpike, coordinated the Publicity Office of Seattle International Film Festival, and was the Director of Operations at Consolidated Works. His current board responsibilities include WA State Arts Commission and the Seattle Arts Commission's Facility and Economic Development Committee. A musician, theater director and writer, Andy received a B.S. in Performance Studies from Northwestern University and participated in Seattle's Leadership Tomorrow program, a series of training activities designed to develop effective community leaders in the region.
