Travis Ploeger - Music Improv for Beginners (District Improv Festival Workshop)
This workshop will introduce improvisers to the basic skills of song improvisation. Topics to include recognizing and initiating songs in a structure, music theater technique, emotional integrity, and communication with the accompanist. While no previous musical improv experience is necessary, participants should be comfortable singing in public, and prior music theater or vocal experience (non-improv) is helpful.
Bio: TRAVIS PLOEGER is the founding director/accompanist for Washington Improv Theater's "iMusical: The Improvised Musical," which has been performing for critical and audience acclaim since 2006. Before that, he spent nearly a decade as either the resident or touring company music director for Chicago City Limits, NYC's longest-running comedy revue. He has performed and/or taught musical improv extensively at the UCB, PIT and Magnet theaters, and was the founding pianist for the seminal music improv trio, "I Eat Pandas," with Glennis McMurray (McCarthy) and Eliza Skinner. He is a graduate of the Hartt School of Music, and a season ticket owner for the Minnesota Vikings. @travisploeger
