Rent, School Edition
Rent, School Edition directed by Jaime Valencik

Broadway Bound Children's Theatre is pleased to present our Spring 2020 production of Rent, School Edition! Based loosely on Puccini's La Boheme, Rent School Edition follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. The physical and emotional complications of the disease pervade the lives of Roger, Mimi, Tom and Angel. Maureen deals with her chronic infidelity through performance art; her partner, Joanne, wonders if their relationship is worth the trouble. Benny has sold out his Bohemian ideals in exchange for a hefty income and is on the outs with his former friends. Mark, an aspiring filmmaker, feels like an outsider to life in general. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves and conflicts provides the narrative thread to this groundbreaking musical.

Cast 1 - May 8th at 7:30 PM, May 9th at 2:00 PM, May 16th at 7:30 PM, May 17th at 3:30 PM

Cast 2 - May 9th at 7:30 PM, May 10th at 3:30 PM, May 15th at 7:30 PM, May 16th at 2:00 PM

There will be concessions and beverages available at the performances in the lobby. Tickets will also be available at the door at every performance.

This adaptation has been carefully done, working with the Larson estate to retain the dramatic intent of the groundbreaking rock musical, and consists of minimal changes to language and the removal of one song ("Contact") to make it possible for many schools to perform this piece.
