Participants in this virtual workshop will learn best practices to prevent abuse within faith communities;how to recognize and respond to physical, emotional and spiritual impact of child abuse; spiritual care for both survivors and offenders; how to recognize and respond to sexual behaviors of children; corporal punishment, the law and the faith community; optimal response to allegations of child abuse within a congregation.

Speakers:

Victor Vieth, JD, MA , Director of Education and Research for Zero Abuse Project ( www.zeroabuseproject.org ) and nationally recognized expert in the field of interpersonal violence and child abuse. He has published countless articles related to the prevention, recognition, investigation,and prosecution of child abuse and neglect. He is author of Unto the Third Generation, a bold initiative that outlines the necessary steps we must all take to eliminate child abuse in America in 3 generations.

Honorable Rev. Everett Mitchell is a Dane County Circuit Judge and Senior Pastor of Christ the Solid Rock Baptist Church. He is a community activist with a passion and desire for justice, equality, and protection of children. Judge Mitchell believes in the idea as expressed by James Baldwin, Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced. He is a graduate of Morehouse College, Princeton Theological Seminary and the University of Wisconsin Law
School.

Victor Vieth and Honorable Rev. Mitchell have co-presented previously in Madison on the topic of child abuse.
