Alistair Barrie - Manstrong
Fresh from a sell-out run at The New Zealand International Comedy Festival, BBC and Comedy Store regular Alistair Barrie previews his new Edinburgh show. As the father of a son, how does one man explain to another man how men work?
After sold out runs of his last show 'The InternationAl' in Melbourne, Edinburgh and the 2019 New Zealand Comedy Festival, Alistair Barrie returned to the UK, where his wife gave birth to their second child, a son.
Meanwhile, another man baby was in The White House, Britain would soon install his mini-me in Downing Street, and 'strong men' were in charge of governments across the globe.
Alistair did not pay too much attention as his life was a blur of nappies, laundry and snot, conducted in an atmosphere of exhaustion and marital tension threatening to break out into open hostility at any moment.
His two year old-daughter was already furious to discover the world didn't revolve around her, a realisation which had been bothering Alistair for decades. As the year progressed, he also began to wonder how he could teach his son what it was to be a man in a world ruled by men. The result is Manstrong, the guide to parenting that Dr Spock never got around to writing, as Alistair attempts to explain everything to his son, his daughter, and most of all, himself.
Alistair Barrie is a frequent guest on BBC Scotland's 'Breaking the News, Radio 4's 'Broadcasting House' and Radio 5 Live's 'Question Time Extra Time'. A regular with The Comedy Store's weekly topical show 'The Edge', he has headlined shows in over forty countries and twice been nominated for best show at The Edinburgh Fringe.
