Bikeatoga Presents Ciclismo Classico Bicycle Travel Film Festival
Bikeatoga seeks to bring together the biking community of the broader Saratoga region for an evening of short films from Ciclismo Classico celebrating cycling and bicycle travel. Though the content of the 16 short films will be about cyclists from Thailand to Boston, these films will appeal to anyone with a sense of adventure and an appreciation for people, planet, and pedals.
To kick off the event, a ticketed happy hour will run 6-7pm. Gannett Auditorium lobby will open to the general public at 6:30 with information from cycling-oriented community groups, raffle ticket sales, and general ticket sales. The raffle tickets will be available before the screening, One at $2.00, Three at $5.00 and Six at $10.00 with prizes donated from our local vendors that include gift cards, bicycle jerseys, and a variety of other gifts. The proceeds from this event will benefit Bikeatoga and Adventure Cycling Association.
Our mission as Bikeatoga is to push for a better future by making functional cycling more convenient, accessible, and safer in and around Saratoga Springs, New York. We are a bicycle rescue, repair-shop, and bike advocacy organization. Our workshop, located at The Church of St. Peter at 241 Broadway, is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday for anyone to earn-a-bike bike or adopt a bike. Our volunteer mechanics work alongside a candidate to repair a bike so it is safe and road-ready. In addition, we host a bi-annual kids bike giveaway, helmet fittings at local events, and an annual competitive Bike to Work breakfast. In 2018, our volunteers spent 1500 hours volunteering at events and the bike workshop. Over 250 bicycles were fixed and adopted. The proceeds from this event will continue our work and help grow our organization so we can ensure members of our community have bicycles for transportation, work, health & even recreational use as we continue to invigorate and promote the bicycle culture & safety in Saratoga Springs.
These films are curated and organized by Ciclismo Classico to celebrate human powered adventure on wheels. This film festival kicked off in Arlington, MA in 2009. Now in its 10th year, screenings will be held across the country from Berkeley, CA to Portland, ME and here in our very own Saratoga Springs. These screenings serve as fundraisers for non-profits like Bikeatoga and the American Cycling Association.
