Politicizing the Global Language Crisis
Today, half the world's languages are facing imminent elimination. Its impossible to do Yiddish cultural work without being reminded (and warned) that Yiddish is itself endangered. Australian anthropologist Gerald Roche argues that to address global language loss, new frameworks are needed, drawing on decolonial and anti-racist activism. Join Dr. Roche for a special evening at the intersection of linguistics and resistance. We will discuss how these new ideas can apply to Yiddish, as well as to minority languages around the world.
