Strengthening the Pregnancy and Newborn Loss Support Team: A Training for Childbirth Professionals

This training is for anyone working with families during the perinatal period including: midwives, RNs, social workers, doulas, lactation support, MDs, and more.
Did you know?
20-25% of all pregnancies do not survive to a healthy live birth. Therefore, most
childbirth professionals and educators will encounter this tragic experience during the course of their careers. The ideal scenario is for the trusted professional team to be prepared to provide both immediate and ongoing support. If more intensive care is needed, a mental health professional can be added to provide consultation or direct care. The overall goal for healing is healthy integration of this traumatic experience within a stable support system.
This extremely sensitive material is presented in a safe and supportive environment which facilitates participant learning and self-awareness. Lecture, video and discussion will cover:
*Current evidence-based practice in the healthcare setting
*Delivering bad news
*Facilitating joint decision-making
*Providing anticipatory guidance along the journey
*Risk factors for depression and anxiety
*Impact on living children and on the subsequent pregnancy
Objectives:
*Define developmental process of parent identity and attachment
*Describe in-hospital best practice for supportive care following early and late pregnancy loss.
*Describe how guided participation helps patients anticipate a normal trajectory of grief.
*Identify 3 signs which indicate a need for more intensive intervention
Registration, pastries, coffee & tea at 8:30am
Training will start promptly at 9:00am
Training will end at 12:30pm
Continuing Education Information:
3.25 CEUs approved for LICSWs, LMHCs, and LMFTs
3.25 Contact hours are available for RNs
This Program has been approved for 3.25 CEUs for Licensed Social Workers, Mental
Health Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists by the Washington State
Society for Clinical Social Work.
Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 17084 for 3.25 contact hours.
About the Presenter:
Deborah Rich, PhD, LP is a Minnesota psychologist with over 30 years of specialty experience providing patient care, professional training and program development. Deb founded the Shoshana Center for Reproductive Health Psychology in 1995, and launched MommaCareTM Training and Outreach Consultation in 2014. Deb was the Coordinator of Pregnancy Loss and Perinatal Mental Health a Fairview Health Services from 1999 2013 when the department was eliminated. She was a founding board member of the Pregnancy Loss and Infant Death Alliance in 2002 and continues as an active member of the education committee. Deb has also served on the boards of North American Psychosocial OB/Gyn and Minnesota Women Psychologists. She is a frequent lecturer at local and national workshops and has trained 14 cohorts with her MommaCareTM model.
