Tuesdays in the Newsroom: Meet the Tankards
There were very few African-Americans living year-round on Martha's Vineyard in 1961 when the Tankard family moved here from New Jersey. In honor of Black History Month, Patricia Tankard, Bob Tankard and Carol Tankard Giosmas -- three of 10 siblings -- will talk about those early years, the obstacles they faced and the importance of friends and family, and offer a unique perspective on the degree to which the Vineyard's relationship to race has changed over 60 years.
Tuesdays in the Newsroom is a monthly speaker and discussion series sponsored by the Vineyard Gazette in the off-season for people who want more engagement with the news. Join us for a stimulating discussion with members of the Tankard family who have contributed so much to the community.
The event is free to subscribers of the Vineyard Gazette; nonsubscribers pay $10.
