Campers in the Tionesta Recreation Area Campgrounds and Outflow Campground come celebrate the World Firefly Day on July 4th with the Pennsylvania Firefly Festival (PAFF). Firefly guides will provide an interpretive firefly program on Saturday, July 4 at the Tionesta Recreation Area Campground Outflow Pavilion. PRE-REGISTRATION is REQUIRED for this site's program ($5 per person + processing fees). NO ON-SITE registration is available.
PAFF volunteers will meet registered participants at 9:00 pm at the Outflow pavilion to provide a short informational program each night. Then, when the time is just right... guides will help locate, observe and identify nature's fireworks! Space is limited to minimize impact and ensure a good experience for everyone.
Wearing of face masks is encouraged and physical distancing (6ft) will be respected during the program. Participants assume all responsibility for any and all risk of possible exposure to the COVID-19. Participants will be asked to withdraw from the event if they have a fever or present other symptoms of illness. Please do not register if you have been exposed to someone diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 2 weeks.
Participants are encouraged to bring camp chairs and/or walking sticks. All participants should dress appropriately for the weather and a night in the forest. Long sleeves, pants and sturdy footwear are highly recommended. Families are welcome. Flashlights are not neccessary, but if used, must be covered by a dark red filter. Pets, cell phones and flash photography are discouraged. No smoking/vaping during the program.
This program is a rain-or-shine event, but fireflies are highly sensitive to the cold and do not fly if the nighttime temperatures fall below 60 degrees. This program is subject to cancellation in the event of severe weather or threats to public safety. There are no refunds or rainchecks for this event.
