Here are a few comments from some of Terris past students:
"I've finally gotten over one of my biggest fears, and I realize now more than ever that when you walk into a room to speak no one wants to you to fail; its made me realize that my fears around public speaking were always misplaced. I think this class has been far and away the most important one of my collegiate career."
"Getting up in front of a group to speak used to be the worst thing in the world. Now I feel
comfortable and relaxed in front of a crowd. The skills in this class will be easily transferable into everyday situations for the rest of my life."
"A group of us were talking after our final class meeting today. We were all saying that this class really shaped who we are as students, who we will be when we enter the workforce, and that this class changed our lives. I have never gained so much from a class, and was so nervous about this class when I first started it. The professor created an atmosphere that was accepting, welcoming, and challenged and impacted all of us. We thank her for all of her care and dedication."
"In all honesty, I have never learned so much about myself in one course. Through fun exercises and practice speeches, I was able to learn how to control the tone and speed of my voice, and to learn how to connect with an audience in a powerful fashion. This course is beyond unique due to its interactive nature."
"No matter which path I choose in the future, I now have the confidence to speak up and let my voice be heard!"
"I don't know what I would have done in the future without this class. I will always recommend this class to anyone even remotely thinking about it or someone like me who said they would never take it!"
"I was dreading going into this class. My fears were alleviated through fun exercises to open the class up to each other. I got to know the people I had class with. The first few speeches were about getting used to being in front of people, yet maintaining a relaxed atmosphere. We soon started to tackle harder speeches and presentations, but it all came naturally as the professor was fantastic at giving advice and reassuring us that it will all go great. I loved this class for that. More than any other class Ive taken so far, I can say I grew for the better in this class."
"There was great camaraderie in this class and Im thankful for that. This shows me that sometimes the things we don't want to do can turn into something great. I was reminded of the worth of my words and that we all may have differences, but thats what makes us special. Sharing our own stories brings us all together, rather than breaking us apart. I think that is important to remember, especially today when there is so much negativity surrounding our differences."
"I would highly recommend ANY and EVERY student to take this course. It is something that we can all work on as a society. I truly wish I took this course earlier in my schooling, but am grateful that I did."
"Public speaking was a new experience for me. I was really out of my comfort zone and although I was extremely nervous to take this class I am so glad I stuck with it. My confidence has definitely improved by taking this class and I now believe in myself more than I ever have."
"This course has not only opened my eyes and mind up to new skills, but the topics Ive heard about from the people in my class have opened up my mind completely. Every student in the class has unique stories to tell that they shared in their own special way. Being able to call each classmate in that course a friend now after coming in as complete strangers has been a life-changing experience."
"Public speaking was a fear for me and I just did not know what to expect. Throughout the course, the class become a family and everyone developed respect for each other. I was able to see major growth in not just myself but in all of my classmates which was very rewarding. Today, face-to-face communication seems even more challenging due to technology so I believe that classes like this are so effective in encouraging people to speak to one another and break that barrier."
