Time
Time is often described as the fourth dimension - it pervades and shapes all that we do. It ticks away on clocks, we use it to measure out our lives in spans of seconds, days, and years. It keeps its own appointments, reckoning the everyday against the exceptional. It grinds down our memories, but is also bridged in an instant when we recall the past. It is also the great unknown, stretching out the future before us. Within music it structures what we do rhythmically as much as touching us - the tactus - keeping us on track with one another.
