Streets Like This
Civic Ensemble's ReEntry Theatre Program presents a remount of their 2018 hit, "Streets Like This," a full-length play by Thom Dunn and A.C. Sidle, in collaboration with the members of the ReEntry Theatre Program.
Join Dennis and Deon, two men worn out from past convictions, dysfunctional institutions, and the preventable deaths of loved ones, who wonder if anyone out there thinks about people like them. From their stoop they share the stories of Crystal, Abby, and Brian who struggle with poverty, addiction, and entanglement with the criminal justice system. Dennis and Deon narrate the stories of these three and other characters navigating the perils of real life and their own demons while dealing with the consequences of probation, incarceration, parole, and court-ordered rehabilitation.
Streets Like This, based on true stories, travels from the Meadow Street Mobil to the Department of Social Services offices, and the curb outside Day Reporting, to their own workplaces and homes. The play offers no single solution but rather brings you into their worlds and asks, "what is our responsibility to each other?"
