Choreographers Collaborative
In the spacious, beautiful studio/theatre of Integrarte, owned and run by Carlos Molina and Erica Cornejo, the following choreographers will be presenting work:  Janelle Gilchrist, David Sun, Olivia Evans, Junichi Fukuda, and Kathy Hassinger.  The following is a brief biography of each:

Janelle Gilchrist, founder and artistic director of Janelle Gilchrist Dance Troupe,  has trained extensively throughout her life in ballet, modern dance and other styles at Harriet Hoctor Ballet School, Boston Ballet School, Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre, Broadway Theater Project, Concord Academy, Dance Theater of Harlem, and the Hartt School in Connecticut where she earned a BFA in Dance.

Janelle has performed as a company dancer at the Hartford Ballet, the New Jersey Ballet, Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre, and Tony Williams Urban Nutcracker where she made her debut as the Sugar Plum Fairy.  She was Principal of the Jose Mateo Ballet School in Dorchester, has taught at Tony Williams Dance Center, Step by Step, and Boston Universitys Reach program, a dance intensive and service program for teens. Janelle currently works full time as a dance instructor at Boston Arts Academy and is a company dancer with City Ballet Boston.

For the Collaborative, Ms. Gilchrist will rework Journeys, a series of solos, duets and trios connecting the African diaspora to the classical works of African American women composers.

Olivia Evans:  Olivia Evans is currently in her third year as a pre-professional student at Integrarte under Erica Cornejo and Carlos Molina.  Prior to training at Integrarte, she trained at Boston Ballet School, and she has also attended summer programs with BalletMet, Carolina Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Walnut Hill School for the Arts, Sarasota Ballet, and Boston Ballet School.

Olivia is new to the choreographic world, with her first piece Arrhythmia premiering in June of 2019.  Her most recent piece, Reverberate, premiered in December of 2019.  Even with a classical background, she aims to explore modern and contemporary styles in her work, and hopes to continue to develop her choreographic voice for many years to come.

For the Collaborative, Ms. Evans will be presenting an extended version of Reverberate, a piece with an emphasis on cohesive movement and musicality.

David Sun:  David Sun directs and choreographs for his group, SundanceX, since 2012. He has been teaching extensively throughout the Northeast since 1989, including at Boston Ballet, Boston College, Boston University, and Harvard University, and continues to teach at numerous schools in Greater Boston, including at Southern New Hampshire Dance Theatre. He performed with many regional groups in the region, as well as with the Houston Grand Opera, and is also an accomplished dance and former fashion photographer.

For the Collaborative, Mr. Sun will produce a new work, Solaris.

Junichi Fukuda:  Junichi Fukuda, founding director of Fukudance, holds a BFA in Dance from the Boston Conservatory and has been a member of Ballet Tech/NY, Oakland Ballet, Smuin Ballet/SF, Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, the New York Baroque Dance Company, Nejla Yatkins NY2 Dance, Buglisi Dance Theatre and Peridance Contemporary Dance Company where he was featured in numerous principal roles. Back in New England, Junichi became a member of Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre while he maintains his choreographic journey.

Junichi was the recipient of the 2012 S&R Washington Award and the Dance Places 2012 New Releases Choreographer Commission. His choreography has been presented at 18MASDANZA in Spain, Dance St. Louis The Spring to Dance Festival, DanceNow at Joes Pub Festival, Boston Contemporary Dance Festival and Bates Dance Festival. Junichi has been commissioned to create new works for Christopher K. Morgan & Artists (Trinitus, April 2013), for Bowen McCauley Dance (Segments, March 2014), and general staging/choreography for Opera (Jeanne: a story of the woman, September 2015, named as best in dance of 2015 by the Arts Fuse). At its premiere, dance critic Sarah Kaufman of the Washington Post called Segments the evenings chief pleasure and went on to say Fukuda knew exactly what he was doing here: creating a work of easeful harmony...bringing to mind freedom and flightThe real credit was due to Fukudas modest, tasteful proposal.  Junichi is a recipient of 2016 Bates Dance Festivals Emerging Choreographer Residency, Dance Complexs 2016 CATALYSTS Artist Residency, Somerville Arts Councils Professional Development, New England Foundation for the Arts New England Dance Fund, and a winner of the 2017 Boston Dance Alliance Rehearsal and Retreat Fellowship.
