The Fishtank Performance Studio presents Kansas City Premiere "Gruesome Playground Injuries" by Rajiv Joseph, 2010 Pulitzer Prize Finalist (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo.) The production is directed by Heart of America Shakespeare Artistic Director Sidonie Garrett and stars Fishtank Curator Heidi Van and Chris Roady (KCAT's "Picnic" and KC Rep's "Death of a Salesman").
"Gruesome Playground Injuries" follows the decades-spanning relationship of an accident-prone dare devil and a corrosive masochist who navigate friendship, love, and the wounds created in between. Doug (Chris Roady) and Kayleen (Heidi Van) first meet in the nurse's office at the age of eight: Doug rode his bike off the roof and Kayleen can't stop throwing up. Over the course of the next 30 years, their lives continue to intersect at the most bizarre intervals and places, leading the two childhood friends to compare scars and the physical calamities that keep drawing them together.
Producer and Fishtank Curator Heidi Van has assembled an all female production team to bring this play from concept to concert. Production team includes Mary NIchols (Set Designer), Shara Abvidi (Lighting Designer), Tabatha Terry-Treml (Make-Up andl Gruesome Wounds), Nihan Yesil (Sound Deisgner), Arwen Thomas (Costume Designer) and Chloe' Robbins-Anderson (Stage Manager), Sidonie Garrett (Director).
The intimate Fishtank offers 30 seats per performance. Performances run weekends September 28th to October 13th. Tickets are $30 and available online at www.fishtanktheater.com. Show at the Fishtank do sell out. It is always recommended to purchase tickets in advance.
