Capay Valley Farm Tour & Sunset Dinner
Yolo County Farm to Every Fork presents a Capay Valley Farm Tour & Sunset Dinner. This comfortable bus expedition winds its way through the lush farm land of the renowned Capay Valley to hosted visits, informative presentations and tastings at two farms and an olive mill.
The day of touring will be brought to a delicious close with a sunset dinner. The menu includes local wine, rustic artisan pizze and farm fresh produce prepared onsite in a wood-fired oven and served alfresco just as the evening shadows lengthen over the beautiful Capay Hills.
You'll know that something special is in store very soon after your 1:00 pm check-in at the Yolo County Fairgrounds Main Entrance in Woodland (1250 E. Gum Avenue). As the tour bus makes its way to Capay Valley, guests will enjoy illuminating onboard commentary and nibble on petite "road food" tastings created by Monticello Seasonal Cuisine from produce grown at Fiddlers' Green Farm, the first farm tour stop.
At Fiddlers' Green Farm in Brooks, an informative orientation and tour of the farm and fields will be provided by Jim Eldon, Farmer at Fiddlers' Green since the 1970's.
Next the bus will head down the road to Yocha Dehe Olive Mill, also in Brooks, where visitors will be greeted by Jim Etters, director of land management for Yocha Dehe Farm and Ranch, producer of Séka Hills olive oil and wines. After touring the mill, visitors will have an opportunity to participate in a guided olive oil tasting!
At the third stop, the farm at Capay Organic, visitors will learn more about these pioneers in the organic farming movement and birthplace of the Farm Fresh to You CSA. Guests will be treated to a guided tractor tram tour of the farm lead by Kristy Levings, Farmer at Chowdown Farms in neighboring Esparto. A harvesting opportunity will be followed by the Sunset Dinner created in partnership with Caffé Italia.
The tour bus is scheduled to return to the Fairgrounds in Woodland at 8:00 pm.
