Lay Down to Rise Up: A Restorative Yoga Class for People of Color
Lay Down to Rise Up:
A Restorative Yoga Class for People of Color With Mary Imani

Without inner change, there can be no outer change. Without collective change, no change matters.
--Rev. angel Kyodo Williams

Sunday, January 19
1:00 - 3:30 pm

This restorative yoga class is designed for POC to pause, reset and nourish their bodies. Go within yourself and lay down the burdens and residue of injustice. Unplug from the external and internal devices that are always engaged in plotting, preparing, and planning for the future or dwelling on the past. Lie down to open the inner eye and inner ear in the present moment to see and hear your true self.

The rising up happens after you rest. When we rise up after consciously resting, we are able to see the world differently. We can take new perspectives and tap into collective wisdom. Rise up and see each other through the eyes of love.

This is a Restorative Yoga class for People of Color (POC). Restorative yoga is designed to restore your vital energy, rather than use it. In this inner change extended practice, you will be guided into passive and slightly active poses with the support of props. No previous yoga experience is required. Dress in comfortable clothing with layers for warmth.

Mary Imani, a Seattle native, has been teaching yoga for 30 years. She currently teaches yoga and empowerment at Lake Washington Girls School, as well as Aging with Grace Yoga for Seniors. Mary also teaches privately, integrating Pilates and yoga, and has 20 years as a massage therapist. Mary likes to thread in her learnings from NVC for People of Color, Rev. angel Kyodo Williams Radical Dharma, and Michelle Cassandra Johnsons Skill In Action. Her classes are known for their humor, warmth, and deep love for the preciousness of all beings.

Find home in the body temple. Through deep kind listening you will receive the insight you need to take your rightful place in the world.
