My Soul is Filled with Joy: A Holocaust Story presented by author Karen Treiger
The award-winning book My Soul is Filled with Joy tells the story of author Karen Treiger's in-laws, Holocaust survivors Sam and Ester Goldberg. Sam was one of the 65 peoples to survive the Treblinka Death Camp. After escaping during a prisoner uprising and fleeing to the nearby forest, he met Ester, who had been hiding there for more than a year with the help of two gentile families. Treiger's book is also the story of the author's present day journey of discovery as she travels to Poland to retrace Sam and Ester's steps and reconnect with relatives and descendants of the families of the families who helped Sam and Ester hide. A former Editor-in-Chief of the New York University Law Review, Treiger retired from her 18 year Seattle law practice in 2015 to research and write this true and harrowing story of hope, love and survival. My Soul is Filled with Joy won the PNWA Nancy Pearl Books Award Best memoir and the bronze medal in world history from the Independent Publishers Association.
