NERD NITE EAST BAY #11: Materials, Monotremes, and MMMMMMollusks
Join us for July's Nerd Nite East Bay. This month:
Heather Jackson answers the question "how can materials and process engineering optimize the performance of the structures, machines, and vehicles we depend on, and make them less likely to kill us or waste our money?" in her presentation "How Stuff Breaks or: Failure IS an option."
Lita Stephenson presents an in depth look at the only creature on the planet that has it's own genus, the platypus. Included in the discussion are it's many strange traits and a look at their sensory system. All will be revealed in her speech, "Platypus 2: Electric Boogaloo.
Greg Babinecz will give a talk on oysters, their historical significance, the claim that they are aphrodisiacs, their life cycles, and their ecological impact in his presentation "Bi-Valve Curious: The Importance of Oysters."
