Suffrage Saturday: Suffrage on Ice
In January 1916, young suffragists in the Twin Cities held an ice-skating carnival at the St. Paul Hippodrome, which attracted 2,000 attendees. On this Suffrage Saturday, join us in the Great Room at 1:30 p.m. for a brief presentation about the Suffrage Skating Carnival, which included stunts organized by University of Minnesota sororities and a costume parade. Throughout the day, learn about the spread of womens suffrage across the United States by making a winter ornament for your home.
This program is part of Hennepin History Museums Suffrage Saturday series, which explores the themes of womens suffrage through short presentations and hands-on activities. These programs are offered on the third Saturday of each month from November 2019 through June 2020.
