About

Dates:
Tuesdays, February 4-March 24, 6:30pm-9:30pm (Instruction)
Saturday, March 14th, 9am-2pm (Filming on Location)

This entry-level workshop will take place over 8 weeks and introduce students to the fundamentals of narrative filmmaking. Those with little to no experience are encouraged to join. This is not a sit-down, lecture-style class; students will collaborate with other classmates and learn by doing. By the end of the course, students will have experience in all aspects of the filmmaking process, from pre-production to post-production.

Using a pre-written script, the class will begin by teaching pre-production strategies, such as how to breakdown a script and identify practical needs to help make your film a reality.
It will then continue with camera, lighting and sound instruction that emphasizes the practical through in-class workshops.

We'll be producing an original short at NWFF. The short will include actors and dialog so that students can practice directing, creating and editing narrative scenes. On-set responsibilities will be rotated so each student gets a chance to perform different roles as director, AD, script supervisor, cinematographer, gaffer, grip, sound mixer, and boom operator. At the end of the 8-week course, each student will edit their scene with in-class assistance and present their version to the class.

Note: Equipment, software, and editing stations are provided. Students also receive free access to the NWFF Edit Lab during the workshop dates, and one week after the last session.
