Maine Inside Out presents The Culture of Punishment: From Parenting to Prisons
A four-day symposium featuring an original performance by youth at Long Creek Youth Development Center & keynote by Sister Helen Prejean, author of Dead Man Walking
This evening will culminate the four day symposium. The evening will begin with will begin with an original performance, on the topic of punishment, created by youth at LCYDC. The performance will be the culmination of a three-week intensive program facilitated by Maine Inside Out artists. The youth will learn acting, writing, and directing skills as they work collaboratively to create and perform their original work both "inside" and "outside" the correctional facility.
As part of Dead Man Walking's 20th Anniversary, Sister Helen Prejean's keynote will follow the performance. She has been instrumental in sparking national dialogue and changing the conversation about the death penalty. Light refreshments and a book signing will end the evening.
Free and open to the public. Donations accepted. Pre-registration required.
