Andrea Beaton and Troy MacGillivray, with Elizabeth and Ben Anderson
Down East music at its level best. Andrea and Troy are amongst the finest exponents of this joyous form of Celtic tradition. And of course, given their deep connections here to Cape Breton Boston, you never know what will happen when a good old-fashioned kitchen party gets going in the back-room. Take a look below at a moment from the last time they played the series.
Elizabeth and Ben Anderson, a Boston-based Scottish fiddle and cello duo who have regularly performed at the series in the past, will open. The sibling duo, has an enthusiastic following in the U.S. and internationally. Blending Scottish tunes with lively rhythms and innovative harmonies, the pair create a sound rooted in tradition, inspired by the contemporary, and completely original. Check them out below.
The Burren Backroom series is now well established as one of the most sought-after boutique series of trad presentation in the world. It has already created already dozens of memorable, intimate, informal presentations held in a truly atmospheric space which was founded by well-known traditional musicians Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello in Davis Square, Somerville, Massachusetts.
Hosted by Brian O'Donovan of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH radio, these gatherings feature core performers from many aspects of traditional music as well as special guests, and conversations around the music. As is the custom of the Burren, it is anticipated informal and dynamic post concert sessions will be a feature.
Tickets prices vary with a $5 discount for WGBH Members. If you are a member, send an e-mail to celtic@wgbh.org and we will send you the code.
