The event will be held at the Maritime Labour Centre, located at 1880 Triumph St, Vancouver, BC V5L 4C3

After reviewing the finances for this event, we have shifted our sliding scale. We have chosen to do this in order to continue raising funds for scholarships, provide a donation to a chosen social justice group and provide an honorarium for an Indigenous speaker. Our previous sliding scale was no longer accomplishing these goals while covering the rising cost of event space in Vancouver.

If you work full time and have secure living accommodations, we encourage you to choose the higher end of the sliding scale ($30) in order to support those who need access to a lower sliding scale to attend.

Tickets are $20, $25 or $30 online, or $20-30 cash at the door. There is no ATM on site. Children under 12 are free.

No one turned away for lack of funds. If you need access to a lower sliding scale you can let us know at the door or email vancouversamhain@gmail.com

Cultural Appropriation & Guidelines for Attire

This event happens close to Halloween and the organizers recognize some attendees may be new to the Reclaiming tradition and may attend wearing a Halloween costume. To create a safer space for all attendees, we have created some guidelines for dress for the event:

In the spirit of the reclaiming tradition we make decisions by consensus, and balance individual autonomy with social responsibility - as such, we would like to respectfully request that you refrain from dressing in attire from a culture, identity, gender or spiritual tradition other than your own. For example, please do not wear a headdress if you are not Indigenous and from a culture where this is a sacred object. Indigenous groups have shared this is harmful. Additionally, please do not wear a bindi if you are not in a faith group where this is part of your spiritual tradition. People who wear bindis as part of their faith have shared they feel harmed by others doing this. If you identify as a man, please do not come to this event dressed as a woman, unless this is part of your cultural, gender or sexual expression (ex: drag culture). Trans and non-binary people have shared that this feels disrespectful. Please refrain from wearing your hair in styles that are specific to racialized groups of people. For example, black people have shared they feel harm when non-black people wear dreadlocks or afro wigs.

If you have questions about your outfit feel free to message or email us at vancouversamhain@gmail.com.

We work to create and sustain communities and cultures that embody our values, and help to heal the wounds of the earth and her peoples, to sustain us and nurture future generations. The organizers will operate under the assumption that people are following these guidelines and we acknowledge that we do not know each individual's history and relationship to their attire. If a concern regarding attire arises at the event, an organizer may invite an individual into a quiet area to discuss their connection with their attire. We ask that all attendees be open to a conversation regarding their attire and if you would prefer not to, we kindly ask you to wear something neutral to the event or refrain from attending. We thank you for your support.

If you are feeling unsure of what to wear, we welcome individuals to wear attire that is often worn for rituals by people in the Reclaiming community. Examples of commonly worn outfits for ritual include:
The same clothing you wore during the day
Clothing that you would wear to a special occasion, like a family event or a nice dinner
Typical witch and wizard outfits including: Capes, cloaks, velvet, flowing layers.
Anything sparkly or glittery, because its fun.
Things that make you feel good!
