Brown Bag Lunch
*Guests are invited to bring their lunch to this meeting

In light of the tragic death of Trayvon Martin and subsequent acquittal of George  Zimmerman, we are moved to ask what it means to have laws that make it legal to kill an unarmed, young African American man. We invite those involved in leadership development from our Bay Area networks to come together to share ideas and strategies about how our work in leadership development is connected to addressing racial bias and structural racism.

Deborah shares some of our early reflections at LLC as a call-to-action for the leadership development community in her article, How Can Leadership Development Programs Make a Difference in the Challenges of Tackling Racism? Please join LLC in creating a space for leadership development practitioners to hold an open, honest and productive dialogue about leadership and race.

This brown bag lunch event will be held at the LLC office in Preservation Park, Oakland on Thursday August 15, 2013 from 11:30am - 1:00pm. Please RSVP so that we can adequately arrange the space.

We hope that you will join us, and that you will extend the invitation to your colleagues and partner organizations who are passionate about leadership and race.

Facilitators:
Deborah Meehan of LLC, and Stacy Kono of Rockwood Leadership Institute

Purpose:
Identify ideas, resources and strategies for dealing with structural racism as part of our work.

Outcomes:
Participants will have a space to reflect about their role in addressing racial inequalities through their work. They also have an opportunity to connect with others who share similar interests as well as exchange practical tools with each other.
