DOORS OPEN AT 7:30pm
WHAT: Matt Dwyer is hosting a fundraising night of comedy to benefit Jail Guitar Doors USA. JGD-USA is charity founded by musicians/activists Billy Bragg and Wayne Kramer based in Los Angeles which provides musical instruments and opportunities to help rehabilitate prisoners. This event features performances by some of today's leading comics to raise funds for in-prison music programs and instruments, including outreach to women's prisons as well youth camps for underaged offenders. Wayne will provide the evening's music.
ABOUT JAIL GUITAR DOORS (JGD-USA): JGD-USA works in cooperation with prison officials to bring musical instruments and education to prisoners throughout the USA. We are musician-founded and musician-operated. We use music programs that are taught by musicians in the prison communities (as well as by current offenders themselves teaching fellow inmates) to teach inmates how to communicate in a new, non-confrontational way. We advance new solutions to diminish prison violence. It is also the intention of JGD-USA to bring awareness to prison reform issues and solutions, while working in coalition with social service partner organizations to advance successful ex-prisoner transitions back into the community after incarceration.
