Loving The Suggestions You Hate

Okay, hate is a strong word but if we're being honest with ourselves, it's possible that as improvisers there are some suggestions that simply don't inspire us as much as others.
In fact, there are times that improvisers have closed themselves off completely to certain suggestions whether they are too common, confusing, banal, dangerous, etc.
Even though improvisers spend so much of their time on stage in that classic improv 'yes and' mindset, sometimes they say no to a suggestion, asking for a different idea. Other times, improvisers might take an unwanted suggestion and use it for a joyless and completely uninspired scene.
In this workshop, we'll learn how to sincerely include the audience as an important scene partner, and embrace and honour that first offer of the scene.
Students will be led through exercises and scenes (with the suggestions they'd prefer not to get), opening themselves to work from their truth and create truly engaging scenework.

Amanda Rountree has been performing improvisational theatre professionally since 1992, teaching since 1998, and directing since 2002. In 2014, she moved to the Atlanta area from Chicago, where she was a faculty member with the Second City Training Center.
Previously, she was a performer and instructor with Unexpected Productions and a performer, instructor, and Co-Artistic Director of Playback Theater Northwest in Seattle. She currently performs, teaches, and directs throughout the Atlanta area and beyond. More can be found at amandarountree.com.
