Puccini's "Suor Angelica" and Leoncavallo's "Pagliacci"
Lyric Opera Northwest ("LONW") is pleased to produce a double-bill of thrilling one-act operas, featuring Metropolitan Opera talent, international artists and the best of the Pacific Northwest singing/actors.
Leoncavallo's "Pagliacci" is well known to operaphiles. Structured as a "play within a play," it was based on a true story from Leoncavallo's youth. In fact, he had to defend himself in a lawsuit for plagiarism filed against him by a competing author. He won the case when he disclosed his own father had been the judge in the murder trial.
Puccini's "Suor Angelica" deals with the sanctity and spiritual warfare of a religious community and the torment a certain nun has with the loss of a child born out of wedlock, a dire circumstance in those days so long ago.
These pieces are inspiring examples of each composer's profound skill and genius in creating music and drama certain to move the hearts of an audience.
Make it an unforgettable evening on either Friday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 pm and/or Sunday, Oct. 27 at 3 pm at the Meydenbauer Center Theater, 11100 NE 6th St, Bellevue, WA 98004.
