AAH Healthcare 101: "Intro to Behavioral Health"

The AIA MidTN Academy of Architecture for Health knowledge community puts on the Healthcare 101 Series for emerging professionals and anyone wanting to improve their knowledge of healthcare design.

This month's seminar will be a basic introduction to the environments of care in relation to Behavioral Health. The intent is to provide attendees with a high level of understanding of the unique requirements of the behavioral health patient population. We will begin with a review of the functional program requirements as outlined in the FGI Guidelines and how to translate these into actual floor plans.To further understand patient needs, we will review the psych safe fixtures, equipment and furniture. Additionally, to investigate some of the operational challenges and patient treatments that drive these requirements, there will be a follow-up session lead by providers as well as a facility tour to come in the following weeks.

Our speaker for the Healthcare 101: Intro to Behavioral Health session is Brent Shivers, AIA. Brent is a Vice President/Account Manager at Gould Turner Group in Nashville.
