With SÉANCEa part documentary, part ghost story 18-years in the makingShannon offers a series of haunting images exploring Spiritualist practices in the US, England and Europe.
Supported with a commentary on her experiences, a foreword by Dan Aykroyd, creator of Ghostbusters and fourth- generation Spiritualist, and illustrated essays from curator Andreas Fischer and artist Tony Oursler, SÉANCE examines Spiritualisms relationship with human celebrity and its connections to art, science, and technology. It concludes with the debate over ectoplasm the elusive substance that is said to be both spiritual and material.
Green-Wood is home to a number of notable 19th Century Spiritualists, including members of the Fox Family the unlikely pioneers of the movement. Come along for an evening trolley tour that brings this riveting history to life, conducted by best-selling author and performer Grady Hendrix and Green-Wood tour guide Allison Meier. After our candlelit journey through Green-Woods Spiritualist past, Shannon Taggart will share some images and stories from Spiritualisms present, as seen in her monograph SÉANCE. Refreshments will be served, and Fulgur publisher Robert Ansell will be in attendance with books available for signing.
