Stephanie Nakasian and The Richmond Jazz All-Stars
For the first time in Charlottesville, veteran jazz vocalist Stephanie Nakasian brings what she says is "a very special concert with my dream band," to perform an evening of bebop classics. The band includes saxophonist James "Saxmo" Gates, pianist Weldon Hill, bassist Michael Hawkins and drummer Billy Williams. Together they represent decades of experience performing both as a quartet and individually, backing up some of the biggest names in jazz. These include Benny Golson, Benny Carter, Donald Harrison, and Christian McBride. The group will play compositions by some of the greatest composers in bebop history, including Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Horace Silver and others.
