I am Frankenstein
Biloxi Little Theatre is proud to present a unique opportunity to attend the first stage reading of a new play, I am Frankenstein.
The story of Frankenstein unearths the tortured lives of two creatures abandoned and rejected by their makers: Victor's famous monster and the teenage write Mary Shelly herself. John Haman's new drama I am Frankenstein is a chilling, tragic retelling of Mary Shelley's classic 1818 novel. The play adds two principle characters to the story: A haunting chorus known as The Blackbirds, and the troubled Mary Shelley, the story's creative force. Victor, a promising student obsessed with alchemy, reanimates human life in the basement laboratory of a vacationing professor, only to abandon his creature and allow it to slowly exact revenge. This new adaptation of the world's first science-fiction novel draws additional inspiration from Paradise Lost.
This play received a private reading at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, at two high schools, a workshop in London, England and three rounds of dramaturgy work with Joe Murphy, assistant director at the Old Vic. This will be the first public reading.
Author John Haman is a playwright from Arkansas who has written award winning plays performed at high schools (including Biloxi High School), festivals and theatre championships.
