Use of Motivational Interviewing in Group Treatment

Millennium Labs will be providing lunch at this training to allow participants more time to networks and participate in Q&A around substances of abuse and testing for drugs.

Current agency members include: Affinity Counseling and Treatment, Catholic Community Services of Western Washington, Lifeline Connections, Providence Health and Services, Recovery Village at Ridgefield, and Western Psychological and Counseling Services.

Goal of Training
This training begins with philosophical conversation about blending Motivational Interviewing and group practice, as suggested by Wagner and Ingersoll in the text Motivational Interviewing in Groups.  We will discuss shaping group conversations in ways that meet the goals of 1) engaging the group, 2) exploring perspectives, 3) broadening perspectives, and 4) moving into action as well as how to gauge timing and movement through these four phases. Participants will be offered an opportunity to discuss and/or practice integrating specific strategies into current groups or creating a new MI group for their work environments.

Behavioral Objectives
Upon completion of this session participants will be able to:
1.Clarify motivational interviewing spirit, skills, and processes
2.Explore the interconnect between motivational interviewing process and group development
3.Identify activities and leadership skills that integrate motivational interviewing methods into group counseling
4.Practice motivational interviewing applications in group counseling

Trainer
Janis Crawford, PhD, LPC, ACS, Janis Crawford, PhD is a licensed professional counselor and approved clinical supervisor. Since 1998 she has worked in the field of addictions as a treatment provider, clinical and administrative supervisor, and program director. She became a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) in 2007. She has since integrated the practice into correctional treatment for addiction and criminal thinking in the Wyoming Department of Corrections, and the detoxification and stabilization program at Providence Medical Center. Janis uses Motivational Interviewing as a style of supervision with professional counseling interns and provides coaching and formal trainings for behavioral health, medical and criminal justice staffs.

Pre-registration and payment in advance is required.
This course has been approved by CDTC as a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, for educational credits. NAADAC Provider #100385. CDTC is responsible for all aspects of their programing.

This training is approved for 6 contact hours through NAADAC. Those participating in educational programs offered by NAADAC Approved Education Providers are assured that the continuing education (CE) credits provided for each course will be accepted toward national credentialing by the National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals (NCC AP), as well as many of the individual state licensing/certification bodies in the addiction and other helping professionals.

The CDTC Refund/Cancellation Policy: For full refund, cancellation of attendance must be received by the CDTC at least 3 days prior to the event.

Cancellations made in less than 3 days of the event are subject to a $15 handling charge. Occasionally, changes are made due to speaker availability or unforeseen circumstances. The CDTC will send out an email announcement to the registration contact and provide an update on our website.

If we are aware of bad weather in the area, the CDTC will extend the full refund deadline to include the morning of the training. The CDTC still must receive notice of cancellation of attendance prior to 10 a.m.

Lunch:There is a one hour lunch break. Conference site does has access to a microwave.
