Steve Sweeney: Townie

Boston actor and comedian Steve Sweeney, whose off-beat characters have made audiences laugh for decades, takes his one-man show Steve Sweeney: Townie to Marblehead for three shows on Friday and Saturday, August 9-10, for the benefit of the Marblehead Little Theatre.

Presented by Scamps Comedy and Silly Theatre Productions, the shows will be held at the Marblehead Little Theatre, 12 School Street, on Friday at 8 and Saturday at 7 and 9 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance ($35 at the door) which includes complimentary beer and wine. Tickets are available at the Arnould Gallery, 111 Washington Street, Marblehead, and online at MLTLive.org or ScampsComedy.com.

UPDATE: As of 5:30 p.m. Saturday, 10 tickets remain (door sales, cash only) for the 7. Twenty eight seats remain for the 9.

Comedian/actor Sweeneys keen dialect and character skills have made him a key figure in Bostons cultural landscape. Sweeney was raised in hard-scrabble, colorful Charlestown, and has carried its influences with him through a career that's included nearly 25 films, national television appearances, radio hosting, and thousands of nights headlining Boston's best comedy clubs. In his funny, sometimes poignant one-man show, he regales his audiences with stories from his life-long journey, with a backdrop of neighborhoods, the old Boston Theater District, and other landmarks.

Sweeney has been a featured on major television shows including David Letterman, Evening at the Improv, Comics Come Home and Comedy Central, and starred in his own Boston-based sitcom, Park Street Under. His trademark political satire has earned him top host spots on Boston radio stations 100.7FM WZLX (Sweeneys Neighborhood) and 95.9FM WATD (Jay Mohr and Opie & Anthony.) In 2018, he starred in the independent film Sweeney Killing Sweeney
