19th October 2019 - Introduction to Bicycle Maintenance
This 4-hour bicycle maintenance course will run on Saturday 19th October from 2-6pm. The course covers all the useful tips so you can keep your bike running for longer, including how to check a bike is safe, as well as general set up and making sure your bike is comfortable for you. We also look at useful basic tools and spares, how to clean and lubricate different parts of the bike, how to adjust brakes and replace pads, index gears, and repair punctures.
The course is held in a bicycle workshop with all the tools available, and parts to buy if needed, the course will be led by a qualified cycle maintenance tutor.
We find the most benefit is gained if you work on your own bike during the lesson, so please bring your own bike if you can. If this is not possible then we will lend you a bike for the duration of the course that is as similar to your own bike as possible.
The price of the course is £25-£40 per person. Prices are listed on a sliding scale, because we invite those who can afford more than £25 to make a contribution to the Bike Mill Bursary Scheme, a pot of funds that make our courses more accessible (more info below).
We need a minimum number of participants to run the course, therefore we recommend booking your place as early as possible. We will confirm 7 days before the event that the course is going ahead, we reserve the right to cancel the event if there are not enough attendees - in this case you will be refunded or given a place on the next course.
After this point, if you are no longer able to attend unfortunately you can only get a refund if we or you are able to fill your place with someone else.
Access: the workshop is currently not wheelchair accessible as it is up one flight of stairs. There is some free car parking outside the workshop.
The Bike Mill Bursary Scheme Leeds Bike Mill is a community bike project; we try to make all the things we do accessible to as many people as possible by keeping prices low or where possible, free. Donations made to the pay-it-forward bursary scheme enable us to offer places to people who otherwise wouldn't be able to attend these courses. There's no obligation, but all donations are gratefully received! In 2018, 19 people chipped in making 3 places available on our 2 Day course.
