An Evening at "Never Built: Los Angeles"
Join APA for a special evening at Never Built: Los Angeles, a highly-anticipated exhibit exploring the "what if" LA. Presented in cooperation with the A+D Museum and AIA LA, the event will feature a panel including:
-Gail Goldberg, Executive Director of ULI Los Angeles and former planning director of the City of Los Angeles
-Thom Mayne, Pritzker Prize-winning founder of Morphosis Architects and one of the world's preeminent architects
-Mott Smith, Principal at Civic Enterprise Associates and president of the Westside Urban Forum
-Michael Woo, dean of the College of Environmental Design at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and member of the Los Angeles City Council from 1985 to 1993
-Moderator Sam Lubell, co-curator of Never Built: Los Angeles
Never Built: Los Angeles (July 28-October 13) is a thorough compendium of projects that only saw the drawing board. The show looks at visionary works that had the greatest potential to reshape the city, from buildings to master plans, from parks to transportation proposals, any of which could have transformed both the physical reality and the collective perception of the metropolis. The stories surrounding these projects shed light on a reluctant city whose institutions and infrastructure have often undermined inventive, challenging urban schemes.
