Lazuli Shoals & Brother John and the Surrogates
Lazuli Shoals - formed in 2017 to play the work of songwriter/guitarist Tom Armstrong.  As a progressive rock band in the tradition of 70s folk rock, their music combines blues patterns and unique chord structures with a driving drum and bass line to narrate lifes celebrations and struggles and the connection of humans with the natural world.  Their first album Brooding, was published this February.

About the artists

Tom Armstrong-guitar, vocals - om began playing guitar as a pre-teen and was inspired by Led Zeppelin, Cream, Pink Floyd, the Beatles White Album, and others of that era.   In the 90s he began writing songs and studied music at the Lionel Hampton School of Music in Moscow, Idaho. Tom has played in numerous bands and has performed as a solo artist throughout the Northwest; he continues to create new songs-another album is being planned for next year.

Linn Jennings-drums - Linn started playing drums when the Beatles were still a band and added guitar in high school. Over the years hes played in a variety of bands, with musical tastes leaning towards progressive, rock, and the blues. When Linn isnt playing drums for Lazuli Shoals, he can be found playing guitar or cruising the waters of Puget Sound with his wife aboard their classic Egg Harbor motor yacht.

David Cordell- bass - David began playing upright bass in high school with a progressive jazz quartet in South Seattle- then moved to bass guitar-playing blues, rock and pop in a variety of bands over the last 50 years.  He joined Lazuli Shoals in 2017 and enjoys matching bass lines and rhythms to the words and mood of the bands original songs.

BAND BIO
Brother John and the Surrogates:
When not the fronting celebrated Tom Waits tribute band, The Bleeding Romeos, band leader John Wies is passionately producing original material with his trio, Brother John and the Surrogates.  The band incorporates Waitsonian off-beat syncopation, arrangements, and moody rants into rhythmic grooves and story-telling vignettes.

Rooted in Wies percussive acoustic-guitar playing style and enhanced by idiosyncratic percussion work and nuanced keyboard playing, the music of Brother John and the Surrogates evokes a variety of genres, presenting listeners with something both familiar and unique.

JOHN WIES  Acoustic Guitar, Vocals
John's percussive playing style, distinctive vocals, and inspired lyrics establish the foundation of Weiswald. Performing locally as a soloist and in various bands in Seattle since 2001 (currently as front-man for the Tom Waits tribute band 'The Bleeding Romeos'), John has also taken the stage in far flung places such as Japan and Korea, had his work showcased in Alaskan theatrical performances, and gotten air-play on Mongolian radio. Johns influences include blues, rock, bluegrass, jazz and numerous singer/songwriters; shaping a body of work that is familiar to the ear yet challenges traditional categorization.

MIKE YOUNG  Drums, Percussion, Back-up Vocals, Noise
Driving the beat with an arsenal of percussive accouterments, Mike also provides backup vocals and has been known to carry flutes, whistles, a melodica, and harmonicas.  Mikes professional music carreer began in 1980 when he provided backup vocals for African singer/songwriter Saidou Richard.  Since then he has performed and recorded in the Seattle area with a variety of groups, most recently with singer/songwriter Doug Fleming Jr.  Mikes main influences include progressive rock, jazz, Irish music, and classical.

JON LANTHIER  Keyboard, Back-up Vocals
Jon brings subtle embellishments to Brother Johns music and lyrics with piano, Wurlitzer, organ, and chromatic percussion sounds. A mostly self-taught musician, Jon performs in a wide range of styles, and can be seen around Seattle playing in jazz-funk, RnB, and vocal groups. His major influences include Terry Adams, Victor Feldman, Charlie Christian, and Ludwig Wittgenstein.
