Wilder than Wild
Award winning documentary Wilder than Wild: Fire, Forests and the future to screen at the Soper Reese Theatre in Lakeport, CA.
The Siegler Springs Community Redevelopment Association and its co-sponsors are hosting a screening of the award-winning documentary Wilder than Wild: Fire, Forests and the Future at the Soper Reese Theatre in Lakeport on Friday, June 14, 2019 from 6-8pm. Admission is free through Brown Paper Tickets as space is limited.
Wilder than Wild is a one-hour documentary that reveals how fire suppression and climate change have exposed Western landscapes to large, high intensity wildfires. The film goes on to explore strategies that are being developed to help mitigate the impact of these fires.
The screening at Soper Reese Theatre is part of a larger effort to engage communities in conversation about the future of living with wildfire risk. A panel featuring representatives from Cal Fire, Bureau of Land Management, Sierra Club, private forest owners, Fire Wise Communities and county fire safe councils will following the screening.
Light refreshments will be offered on sale and donations will be accepted to help fund future events and community education.
Siegler Springs Community Redevelopment Association recognizes the importance of building community awareness about mitigation strategies in this new age of wildfire. SSCRA has been working closely with members of the Cobb Area Council and South Lake Fire Safe Council, partners to ensure the safety of our neighborhoods and economic centers. SSCRA helps residents incorporate best practices in shaping their communities, including building homes in defensible clusters, developing collaborative decision-making skills and learning how to write successful grant applications. The goal is to help area residents develop cooperative associations and housing and help communities develop their capacity to cultivate and safeguard their economic development, health and safety.
