BOBR Columbia: Flow Official featuring Icon
SHA'CONDRIA iCON SIBLEY is a force, "lightning... that doesn't ask for permission to strike". As a multi-disciplinary creative and teaching artist, she works to teach poetry in schools, community spaces, camps, and prisons. iCon holds so many regional and national poetry slam championship titles, both individually and formerly as a founding member of the dynamic Team SNO (Slam New Orleans), that being placed in a bout against her was deemed "unfair". Her national television appearances include featuring on TV One's NAACP award-nominated Verses and Flow. In 2016, she and her team became the first poetry group to ever grace the mainstage at the Essence Music Festival. Her work has been featured on many national and international outlets such as Upworthy, Huffington Post, For Harriet, Marie Claire, Teen Vogue, and BET. It is also featured in the documentaries, Searching for Shaniqua, and Taking Back the Crown, as well as the UK's popular What's Up TV on SkyOne and BBC World Radio. As a talk radio and podcast personality, she is the creator and co-host of The Front Porch. iCon largely uses her work/words to speak on Black womens issues as they relate to race relations, visibility, beauty standards, experiences, identity, and healing. When not performing poetry, she can be found somewhere sifting through a pile of ideas (or thrift clothes), creating, being as Black and as human as possible, and learning to love herself unapologetically.
